Brunel, one of the greatest engineers of the Industrial Revolution, and his family are celebrated in the Brunel Museum alongside the Thames, where the revolutionary tunnel opened in 1843.
Explore the Grand Entrance Hall, home to a secret underground theatre with remarkable acoustics, and the abundant potager roof garden. Here the Midnight Apothecary rustles up gorgeous cocktails infused and garnished with fruit, vegetables, and herbs grown on site.
Around the museum are shrubs and trees chosen by Brunel for his château in Watcombe, Devon, including a monkey puzzle tree seeded from trees he planted. Do visit!
